The Flore d’Arc house in Gémenos, near Marseille, is a large and beautiful retirement home with 60 persons. The Sisters of Sion share the house with others, both contemplative Sisters of the Assumption and lay people. For everyone living there (and there are also a few men), this is a time of “withdrawal”, a more interior time of life, which does not prevent those who are able also to have external activities: welcoming people at the neighboring church, in catechesis, the liturgy, etc… courses in Hebrew, the Bible, as well as commitments in social or cultural and interfaith organizations. France’s southern regions are privileged places of encounter because of the large number of immigrants coming from various places, languages, ideologies, religions. These regions invite us to live in a welcoming, harmonious way, to do acts of solidarity with foreigners, with people on the margin. However, for some, apostolic activity can only be exercised within the house through the quality of mutual relations, attentiveness to others (residents and personnel), small services rendered, a good mood, and prayer.
